Disclosure of Convictions

Farriers have now been included in the Notifiable Occupations Scheme, which provides for police disclosure of convictions to regulatory authorities. Such police disclosure is considered to be in the public interest, and outweighs the normal duty of confidentiality to the individual in am occupation that carries special trust or responsibilty.

Farriers have been included in Category 2 of the Scheme, which means that notification will not be asutomatic, but will be subject to the judgement of the police that the conviction is relevant for disclosure.

As a result the FRC should now be notified by the police of farriers convictions when these are serious.

The scheme is describes by the Home Office Circular 6/2006 and Appendix A - Category 2 occupations.
